Anxiety and Worry

Can our actions (or lack of actions) give us things to worry about?
As I have observed, those who plow evil
and those who sow trouble reap it.
~Job 4:8 (NIV)
What should we focus on instead of worry?
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight
~Proverbs 3 (NIV)

Can worry alter our circumstances or change our lives for the better?

Is there anything to be gained from anxiety and worry? How does it affect our lives?
Anxiety weighs down the heart,
but a kind word cheers it up.
~Proverbs 12:25 (NIV)

Is anxiety and worry caused by "wrong" thoughts or sinful actions or are there other sources?
While anxiety and worry can be cause by sins, it can also be caused by not being able to let go of issues and problems in your life. Deal with the problems in your life and you will be at peace.

Attitude

Attitude determines a lot about a situation. We feel like we aren't in control of what happens, but we're in control of how we respond.

Two different situations:
  1. You're in the hallway and you get shoved. You generally have a negative response.
  2. You're in the hallway and you drop some money. Someone gives it back to you, letting you know you dropped it. You generally have a positive response.
Attitude is the only thing that you can control 100% of the time. Matthew reminds us: " Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’" ~Matthew 22:37 (NIV) Your mind = your attitude. If you have a good and clear mind, you will have a positive attitude

Your actions lead to your habits, your habits develop what your character is (who you are), and your character determines your future. Where do you see your future based on where you are right now? If you don't like what you see for your future, you can change. It will be hard to stay committed to the change, but it can make your future better. You can change your life, but you have to change your attitude first.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ~Colossians 3:2 (NIV)
